Agricultural extension means the application of scientific research and new knowledge to agricultural practices through farmer education. Agricultural extension officers are intermediaries between researchers and farmers.
They operate as communicators helping farmers in their decision making and ensuring that appropriate knowledge is implemented to obtain the results with regard to sustainable production and general rural development.
All Agriculture courses have five (5) years duration in Nigeria.
English, Chemistry, Biology/ Agricultural Science plus Mathematics or Physics
An agricultural extension officer works for the government as liaison officers that provide additional training to farmers and agricultural businesses. Most agricultural extension officers become self-employed as consultants to companies that require their experience in the industry. They can also own their farm and apply their expertise to it.
