Engineers carry out the design but the technologist is the one who executes the design of the engineer. The engineer applies the results obtained through research to useful purposes in the society.

In the engineering industries, there are various departments that accommodate different engineering activities. In a chemical/petrochemical company like Shell and Chevron, there are departments for electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, civil engineers, and petroleum engineers.
